A structured checklist is the easiest way to make sure nothing is missed before your final rental inspection. Use this room-by-room guide as you prepare your Sydney property for handover.
Kitchen
Clean inside and outside of the oven, stovetop, and rangehood. Wipe all cupboard interiors and exteriors, including handles. Degrease splashbacks, clean the sink and taps, and mop floors. Do not forget the dishwasher filter and the space behind the fridge if accessible.
Bathrooms
Scrub toilets inside and out, including the base and behind the seat. Remove soap scum from shower screens and descale taps. Clean grout lines, exhaust fans, mirrors, and all cabinetry. Mop floors and wipe skirting boards.
Bedrooms and living areas
Dust all surfaces, clean light switches and power points, wipe skirting boards, and clean windows inside (and outside where accessible). Check wardrobes — empty, dusted, and wiped down. Vacuum or mop floors, including under furniture if it was listed on your condition report.
Carpets and floors
Vacuum thoroughly and treat visible stains. If your lease requires professional carpet steam cleaning, book this before inspection and keep the receipt. Hard floors should be swept and mopped with appropriate products for timber, tile, or laminate.
Outdoor areas and extras
Sweep balconies, patios, and garages. Remove rubbish and personal items. If applicable, wipe down outdoor furniture and clean the letterbox area. Check that all keys, remotes, and access cards are ready to return.
